Orlando Magic's free fall doesn't endanger season. . . yet
The Orlando Magic are succumbing to their injuries and falling down the standings. But their goals are still fully in front of them.
You would be excused if you do not recognize the Orlando Magic team on the floor right now.
Since Jalen Suggs' injury on Jan. 3 against the Toronto Raptors, they have had inconsistent energy, their defense has slipped considerably and whatever semblance of an offense the team was cobbling together has completely collapsed.
The Magic have told the world they are enough. And their injuries finally seemed to have gut them of the ability to compete nightly. Losing their hallmark energy has been the most frustrating thing.
Orlando had aimed to win homecourt advantage in the first round. The team said it would not drop those games on a random Tuesday in January. And yet, the Magic are back in a January swoon thanks to the injuries they are facing and trying to find their rhythm again.
There is not any panic within this team right now. They know they need time to get used to playing together and that a healthy roster will set things straight.
They know they were in this same scenario going 23-20 through 43 games last year too. The fact the Magic, through all their injuries, sustained a high level of play to this point still feels like a minor miracle.
