Orlando Magic gaining the process of winning
The Orlando Magic continue to show their ability to win and find wins even on bad nights. That is the process a good team needs to succeed.
Things looked bleak for the Orlando Magic in the middle of the third quarter.
They went 5:22 without scoring a field goal and missed their first nine shots, turning it over four times, to open the third quarter. The Magic saw a tie game balloon to 12 before they finally got a shot to go down.
That lead would grow to 15.
In one way, it felt like it was not the Magic’s night. The shots would not go down, and the Chicago Bulls are an aggressive, fast-breaking team. They run off everything and missed shots only empower them to run further and keep defenses off-balanced.
It would have been unacceptable, but the Magic could have chalked it up to a bad day and looked to lick their wounds and recover.
Through three quarters, they had given up 85 points and seemed set to be run out of the gym at times. They let the Bulls dictate the tempo and the pace to them and got caught up in their fast-paced scheme.
The Magic worked their way back into the game. But even then, it felt like an uphill climb.
Orlando closed the final six minutes 26-11 against Chicago to tie the game after three quarters. They could thank some energy from Anthony Black and Goga Bitadze for helping them find their groove again. Orlando was not quitting on the game. They were looking for that spark.
The fourth quarter was still a slog. The Magic could not get separation. Not until Desmond Bane’s three-pointer with 3:23 to play sparked an 8-0 run and helped the Magic hang on for a 125-120 victory.
The Magic hung on for the victory from there. The Magic simply found a way.
That is a sign of maturity. That is a sign of a team learning how to win.
