It is weird to wake up the day before Thanksgiving and only have to click on offensive rating once to sort and find the Orlando Magic. That is frankly something those looking up the Magic’s stats have not had to do for nearly a decade and a half.
But there they are. Go to nba.com/stats, click on the advanced stats, click on offensive rating, and you will see the Magic at seventh in the league with 117.9 points per 100 possessions.
The Magic are coming off, statistically, their best offensive showings of the season, following two games with a 133.0 offensive rating against the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, with a 137.1 offensive rating in the 144-103 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Tuesday’s win set several records: the most points scored in a quarter (51 in the second), most points scored in a half (86 in the first half), a franchise record five straight games scoring 120 points, a franchise record nine players in double figures and the fifth-highest scoring game in franchise history.
The Magic were amazingly down eight in the first quarter when Tyus Jones hit two threes with an Anthony Black basket in the middle to tie the game at 34 after one quarter.
Black then proceeded to score 20 of his career-high 31 points in the second quarter as the Magic blew the game open.
At long last, the Magic not only appear to have a functioning offense, but they also have one of the best offenses in the league. This was a night to celebrate scoring.
