Jase Richardson eager to prove he can play the point

It is safe to say the Orlando Magic are over the moon about their draft pick.

That is the public-facing case every time a team makes a draft pick. No GM is going to come to the media disappointed in adding a new player in the draft. That is just the reality.

Still, in this case, it is hard not to feel that excitement. President of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said they had and were preparing for Jase Richardson when they had the 16th pick. To see him available at 25 was truly a victory for them.

Richardson checks so many boxes for the Magic and things they need to complete this roster.

They needed shooting -- Richardson is elite at that, making 41.2 percent last year. They needed a downhill scorer and creator -- Richardson was one of the most efficient scorers at the rim.

Richardson will be a spark for this team.
